Osaka Castle and its Park

A castle originally founded by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583, today it is the symbol of the history and culture of Osaka. From the main tower, you can see the beautiful panoramic view of Osaka City. You can also enjoy the four seasons at the park that the castle is located in.

Shitennoji

Shitennoji, originally built in the year 593 by Prince Shotoku, is known as the first official temple of Japan.
The West Gate of the temple signifies entrance into heaven. Here people worshipped the setting sun, which has led to the naming of this area as "Yuhigaoka" or sunset hill in Japanese.

Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine Bridge

Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine was constructed 1800 years ago and is now designated as a national treasure. It is one of the most popular shrines for offering New Year's prayers in Osaka and it is estimated that more than three million people visit the shrine in the first three days of the New Year, each year.

The museums

Osaka offers a wide variety of museums ranging from traditional types to specific ones.

The Museum of Oriental Ceramics

It is one of the world's most famous museums for oriental ceramics. The museum has approximately 2,700 impressive works including national treasures and important cultural relics from the Ataka Collection.

Osaka Aquarium “Kaiyukan”

Osaka Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world. You can watch a huge killer shark swimming in an enormous tank and enjoy the sensation of playing with sea creatures in the sea.

Japan's largest underground mall and longest shopping arcade are found in Osaka. There are many department stores around the railway terminals, which means you can enjoy shopping just about anywhere in Osaka.

Matsuyamachi shopping street boasts many toy wholesalers stocking traditional Japanese items ranging from Japanese dolls to New Years decorations, hina ningyos (dolls for the girls day), and carp streamers. In Nippon-bashi Den-Den town you will find every conceivable type of home appliance and computer equipment, along with animation-related goods and high-tech parts for robots which are difficult to come across anywhere else.

Gourmet City Osaka

In the Edo period, Osaka used to be called the "Kitchen of Japan", and the best from land and sea were brought to Osaka. Still today, Osaka is famous for its cuisine and it offers dishes from all around the world, not to mention its own original Osaka-style food such as takoyaki, okonomiyaki, kitsune udon, Osaka sushi, and shokado bento.
There are approximately 180 shops at the Kuromon Market which is famous for groceries such as fresh fish that they sell and the delicious dishes you can try there.
